Discussion about what art we need for the explore feature and who we should commission it from.

So we know we need art for each explore area (those are still being decided here). What do you guys think of possibly buying four season art for each area? So the forest would have spring, summer, autumn, and winter art; the mountains would have spring, summer, autumn, and winter art; and so on and so forth.

I actually really love that idea! It would add an element of realism that a lot of other games don't have, and help really immerse players in the world.

Awesome! And yeah, that's what I'm hoping for. c:
What does everyone else think about it?

I don't think many other sim/petsites (if any at all) have seasonal rotation implemented. This would be something unique to have.

I was thinking of maybe having art for different times of the day (dawn, day, dusk, night or something), but I'm not sure if it's worth the work involved with that or not. I have no idea how that stuff is coded either though.

I think it's not worth it to have the times of day, just because it would multiply the art needed fourfold and with different time zones the effect would be lost on a lot of players. However the seasonal change one is unique and since it's only 4 times a year it might even be easier to manually change the image instead of coding it- depending on how easy that would be (might be able to simply do it with multiple if/then statements but I have no idea). It's also easier to edit the original (say, spring) art to represent other seasons so it might not cost as much as 4 full pieces for each area.

What's with that formatting?! O.o Where did my post go? D: *types everything over again*
Anyways Sushi is right. Besides seasons, if we add dawn, day, dusk and night we would need 16 artworks for every area. It would be way too time-consuming.
I agree that we should have 4 seasons MAX. Some areas would require less effort if we consider some seasons would look the same, for example in the desert.

Okay. So we're all on the same page with that then. ^_^ Those were my concerns as well.
As far as the time zones thing goes, the effect of the seasons are going to be lost on Southern hemisphere players. That's something that's been in the back of my mind.

That's true as well. There isn't really anything we can do about that if we go ahead with different seasons. They're probably aware of the northern/southern climate flip, though, so it's not going to be a huge shock.

I think it would be cool to have time of day in addition to the four seasons, but I think that's something that could maybe be added later if we think of it, since it would be so expensive.

I think that the time of day changes would be rotten for a large number of players. A lot of people may log into a petsite at about the same time each day, and there is no telling what time zone they are in, so they could be forever stuck in a "night" setting, even if they are online around lunchtime. Just my thoughts, I don't think it's necessary at all. The seasons, however, is brilliant!

For the time being at the very least, I think we'll stick with just seasons.
