What about Volary for the world? XD

Volary is an actual word ( definition). I'm not sure either way if it would work as a place name. It might work though...

I didn't realize that until I googled it a minute ago. XD Umm... I am so bad with names it's not even funny. I don't see why it wouldn't work as a place name, though. I mean, pointing again to Felisfire, the planet's name is literally Felisfire, all they did was add "fire" to the end of "Felis" which is only an "s" added to the root "feli" as in "Feline."

True...
What do you think of the rest of the name ideas? Have any ideas on how to improve them? I'm not 100% sold on Lanidale... I love Oceanside though. I want to keep that name if you like it.

I do love Oceanside, but I'm not sold on Blue Lagoon or Lanidale. Let's see... Normally, towns are named after rivers they're nearby (or at least, that's how it used to be, I think) So maybe you could put the town near the Aves river and name it Avesvale or something?

Having the town by the Aves River is definitely a good idea. I think it should be there for sure. Hmm... suffixes... Here's a link I found awhile back that I find useful. We also don't have to just use Aves. We can use the singular form - Avis. Avesburn Avisbury/Avesbury Avesby/Avisby Dalavis/Dolaves Avesfield/Avisfield Avesgate Avesinge Avisleigh/Avesleigh Avismore/Avesmore Avishaw/Aveshaw Avesworth Out of those ideas (you're more than welcome to come up with your own ideas too!) I think I might like Avesbury, Avesmore, or Aveshaw best... What do you think? If you have better thoughts on ideas I seriously would love to hear them! c:

I've always liked the suffix "vale" personally, like Avesvale or Avisvale, then there's always "ville" Aves/Avisville, "shire" Aves/Avishire, Aves/Aviswood, Aves/Avisdale umm... That's all I've got at the moment.

-vale would suggest it'd be near a valley... That could work. The river could flow through a valley perhaps? -dale is also a suffix meaning valley, so this could work in the same way as -vale. -shire is used for counties, though Aveshire I think is cool. I just don't think it'd work in the context of what we have right now. -wood might be good. It could be near the river and a forest could be on the other side of the town, or maybe the town could be a large clearing in the forest by the river? -shaw is also a suffix meaning wood or fringe of a woodland.
Avesvale vs Avisvale Avesdale vs Avisdale Aveswood vs Aviswood Aveshaw vs Avishaw
I think I like Avesdale and Aveshaw the best out of those. Your thoughts?

Okay! I think we should get some more opinions and ideas into this before we decide for sure, but it seems like Avesdale is a serious contender for the town's name.

Oh, I just posted on the Central Town poll post, but I guess I'll put the stuff here as well since it might be more relevant here. I also hadn't really thought of the associations behind the initial Avesdale, after considering that I like it a lot more. c: But since I bothered to come up with names I'll suggest then anyway. xD I sort of followed the vein of villages being named after the rivers / waterways they are near, but I focused more on the general locations and general landscapes. I added a few more in for other location names as well. On the topic of world names, personally I like the idea of having the world called 'Volary', despite the fact that it is an actual word. I don't think that many will know that anyway, but it seems like it would work in context anyway. The humans on the world might have seen the birds and how that they had no limits except the world or whatnot and it might have come about that way. However, that would only work depending on the history of the world - if the humans and birds ever sort of conflicted that wouldn't work. Random Town Suggestions:-Estercliff (Ester means 'Star', Cliff means 'Cliff'. xD) This would probably work if the village was near some sort of rock formation, not necessarily on a cliff but perhaps near one - or there could have been one there in the past or something similar.-Faylea (Fay meaning 'Faerie', Lea meaning a 'Fertile Land') This would work on any sort of grassy plain most likely not very forested but mostly flat. It might work since the land would probably have to have been fertile for the human settlement to survive amongst the hardship.-Lochedgge (Loch meaning a 'Landlocked part of the Sea', Edge meaning an 'Edge'.) This would work if the village is near some sort of body of salt water, which could be either near the ocean itself or just be a waterway towards the ocean. Sea loches aren't usually very big, but often are more narrow.-Pryston (I don't think it means anything, but it sounds cool. xD) Explore / Hunting / Misc Areas:Most of these are very bird related. xD I'm not very creative, unfortunately.-The Webbed Sea (Webbed referring to aquatic bird's webbed feet) -The Icterine Forest (Icterine referring to blackbirds, oriole and meadowlarks) -The Talon Hills (Talon referring to a bird's talons) -The Volucrine Waste (Volucrine referring to birds) -The Accipitrine Plateau (Accipitrine referring to birds of prey) -The Island of Alaudine (Alaudine referring to skylarks') -The Oscine Vale (Oscine referring to songbirds') -The Fox's Heath (You could insert any time of bird predator where the fox is though.) -The Crested Mountains (Crested referring to a bird's crest)

It seems the consensus is to use Volary as the world name and Avesdale as the town name. I've updated the map master list and the op of this thread accordingly. c: Those are some really nice names Fire! I bet we could use some later on in the game when we expand the map! I'm definitely not getting rid of this forum once the game opens (brilliant ideas in here after all), so I'll still have this for reference throughout the game's life. ^_^ What do you guys think of the explore/hunting name ideas I posted above? Which ones would you change that haven't already been changed? (Lanidale was changed to Avesdale and Blue Lagoon is currently on the chopping block unless otherwise revived.)

Hmm. Personally I'm not all that thrilled on 'The Rocky Rise', it sounds too much like a kid's ride in Disney World. While I like 'Blue Lagoon' it does sound like it's been done before. It's both a movie and a geothermic spa in Iceland I think. xD I do think that there has to be an element of uniformity throughout the names. It seems so far that we're leaning towards more Latin words with the more scientific set of language and class types, so I think Caelum Ocean fits in with that type of scheme. However, I'm not so thrilled on White Desert (and Blue Lagoon on that vein), and I don't think Rocky Rise really fits there either. For Valley Plains, I think that it's sort of contradictory. xD A valley is a valley, whereas plains I think are mostly flat without deviation really. According to that, there wouldn't really be a plain and a valley in the same place. I think the type of place you're envisioning there would be more like 'Valley Meadow' or 'Meadow Valley'. I like the sound of Elleway Forest. Does Elleway have any sort of meaning? There is the 'way' I'm seeing there, but I haven't really got anything from 'Elle'. Then again, it doesn't have to have a meaning if it sounds cool, but I was wondering. As for Aves River, I think that should stay the same since Avesdale was named after it and all. I think the only thing I haven't covered then is Oceanside... I have mixed feelings on that one. It's pretty, but meh. I don't know. xD
