I have a really good friend who does professional web design. I've known her for something like 8 years or so. I talked with her and she's totally up for designing the layout for us. If we want, she might try her hand at the logo too. This is her facebook page (not profile). It doesn't show nearly what all she's done with various web designs though. What do you guys think about using her?

It isn't much to go on, but I snooped around your friend's website and it all looks really good! From what I've seen her layouts are a bit more simple and befitting of a business website opposed to something like Volary which would be a sim / pet collecting game which might be more complicated? However I have no clue what I'm talking about and I'm going off very limited material here so I'm probably not qualified to say anything. The logo that I saw she designed looks really cool though, if anything I'd definitely be down for letting her try her hand at VS' logo design. c:

If it helps, she has over a decade experience playing pet sites and so she'll understand the needs we'll have that are unique to other types of sites. I really wish I had better examples to show you all though. :c
Okay! If others concur I can ask her what she thinks about trying her hand with our logo.

I think that a trusted, experienced friend is incredibly valuable to have on a project like this!

I think her experience would be a valuable asset. I would recommend looking into using percentages instead of pixels when coding the layout, so it will fit on all screens. It's a simple feature I wish more sites used. In my opinion a simple yet artistic layout would work well, with rounded buttons for navigation. The background could be a slightly textured light blue to simulate sky possibly. Brand name recognition is everything with a logo, so I feel that using one of your bird breeds you will come up with, possibly a majestic one, could be added as a silhouette in a flying pose at the corner of the name. Or you could hold a contest after you get markings and breeds set up to determine the site's mascot. Original yet simple would make the site easy to read and navigate, and would allow the art and features to stand out and shine.
